Palm Springs is a 2020 sci-fi rom-com about two wedding guests who get trapped in a time loop, living the same day over and over again. The story’s about Sarah (Cristin Milioti), who’s maid-of-honour at her sister’s wedding in Palm Springs. She meets Nyles (Andy Samberg), one of the bridesmaid’s boyfriends, and is accidentally sucked into a time loop when she follows him into a cave containing a time vortex. Unable to escape or die without waking up at the beginning of the day, the two develop a relationship and try to enjoy themselves while they’re stuck in the same repeated day.

This story may seem like a rip-off of the 1993 movie Groundhog Day, but it is far from what it may seem and takes a different direction on a fairly clichèd idea. The script is hilarious and fits perfectly with Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti’s on-screen chemistry and breathe life into a movie that might’ve not worked with anyone else in the roles. It’s plenty of fun, hilarious and serves up some well-needed escapism after months inside during lockdown.

Score - 9/10

Palm Springs is available on Amazon Prime Video in the UK and Hulu in the US.
