Dancing Queen is a 1993 tv movie which is part of the ITV comedy-drama series Rik Mayall Presents, a six part series of hour-long films shown from 1993 to 1995. This film is about a soon-to-be newlywed Neil (Mayall), who is set to marry a posh snobbish girl in the south of England called Sophie. But at his posh lad's stag night, his mates do a stag night prank after drugging him unconscious and plonking him on a train to Doncaster with his trousers off and a clock tied to his head to wake him before they pick him up at Doncaster, though it goes badly wrong as the train misses the stop and Neil is left in Scarborough miles away from his wedding and only left with the company of Julie "a.k.a Pandora" (Bonham Carter), the stripper from his stag night who happens to be on the same train as him and they form a romance along the way while trying to get him home.
I like this film very much and when rewatching it for this review, I loved it more than did I before. It has heart and charm while at the same time having some hilarious and poignant moments throughout. This is quite a change from Rik Mayall’s usual manic comic acting as this series of films shows how much of a great acting range he had in this highly underrated piece in his filmography (also r.i.p rik).
