A Hard Day’s Night is a 1964 comedy movie starring The Beatles in their first motion picture. It's about 36 hours in the lives of The Beatles and their struggles from keeping track of what mischief Paul’s Grandfather (Brambell) is up to or trying to run away from screaming, hysterical fans, this film is full of action-packed scenes, witty dialogue and a great soundtrack to go with it.
The film also stars Norman Rossington as their manager Norm, John Junkin as their road manager Shake and Victor Spinetti as the uptight TV director. The Beatles acting themselves is rather mediocre of course because of their lack of experience but pays off mainly due to John Lennon’s absurdness and wit throughout the movie. At certain times in the film, the band usually run off to have a bit of fun like sneaking off to a party and running out the tv studio to mess about at the field beside it. There’s a great performance in the film from Irish actor Wilfred Brambell, best known from the long-running tv show Steptoe and Son, who portrays Paul’s grandfather in the movie. The movie finishes with The Beatles playing a few songs to a live studio audience for TV before leaving in a helicopter.
Overall, I really enjoyed this movie, it’s got a great batch of actors, a funny script with some slapstick and classic tunes from Lennon and McCartney, this movie made a mark on musicians/bands in their own films and it sure is a great film which is well worth a watch.
Score - 9/10
